I went to the Yahoo page for the first time in a long time and saw this:
It seriously scared me a little. I couldn’t even see where to sign in so I closed it and went to gmail.
If you go back and forth between both pages, you can see how your experience as a user changes completely.
This applies to your work and your portfolio. You cannot go wrong with simple and clean. You need to give the users (CDs, HR, Visitors…) the best experience you possibly can.
For your portfolio, people are coming to see your work so make it about the work, and don’t clutter it with designy things and backgrounds and shadows… Less is more.
If your page is like the Yahoo page, they will close it and go to someone else’s. Remember that.
