First of all, I would like to apologize for disappearing for such a long time. No excuses. BUT if I had to give you an excuse, it would be: Life Happens.
(I know, lame excuse).
Sometimes in the ad biz, you have to give up a lot of things in order to learn, move up, prove yourself etc. I’m not saying you should give up everything all the time, but it’s a necessary evil sometimes. As a Junior, you need to work your ass off to prove yourself (mostly to yourself, not so much to others). So, that’s what I’ve been doing.
Last week, I got a comment from a reader that made my day, and reminded me how much I miss talking to you Juniors. You can read her comment under this post.
Denise, I want to thank you for that. I’m happy you stumbled upon Dear Brook Blog, and I’m happy it helped, even a little.
I understand completely where you’re coming from, I’ve been there. It’s really tough to understand how this industry works and how to approach senior people, get an internship, a job, learn, follow your dream, prove yourself… it’s never ending really. BUT, that’s why I’m here.
I wanted to remind all of you Juniors that I’m here to make it easier on you to make a jumpstart on your career in advertising. I’m here to tell you what to expect and share what I learn with all of you, and also learn from you. The more we share, the better we get. (Share people, share!)
Denise, I love your passion and eagerness, you are on the right path. I can tell you that it’s all about the attitude. If your dream is to move to NY and become a Creative Director, focus on that, work hard, stay honest and watch your dream come true. Meanwhile, you have Dear Brook to help you along the way.
